Year 5 spent 2 days in London and had a fantastic time. The children travelled by train to London and used the underground (and their legs) to get around the city. For many it was their first time to London. On the first day we visited Buckingham Palace, ate lunch in St James Park, posed with guards at the Horse Guards and bombarded the policmen outside Downing Street with lots of questions (mostly about the guns they had!). The children then had the chance to view London from the London Eye. A trip to MacDonalds was eagerly awaited by all the children who obviously don't get to go very often! After burgers and chips the children seemed to perk up a bit and were ready for the highlight of the visit - a visit to the Lion King show. The performance was fantastic and the children were spellbound. After the show we headed for HMS Belfast where we spent the night in the bunks the sailors used to sleep in. We hoped that the children would be very tired but most managed to stay awake for some time! On the following morning we had a talk from the education staff from the Imperial War Museuem and then a tour round the boat. Before heading home the children had time to run around in Kensington Gardens and visit the Diana Memorial Playground after lunch. The children were extremely well behaved and a credit to the school. Many people commented on how good they were, so well done Year 5. |
